Jack's Coat of Arms T-Shirt

My grandson Jack loves military games. I think his favorite game is "War Hammer". One day he even had me painting one of his little army creatures. When it came time to come up with a design for painting a T-shirt, he decided to go military. I think what he came up with is graphically very appealing. colors are good, design balanced, and it fits the shirt.
All the kids were given the OK to paint whatever they wanted on the T-shirt this time so they came up with very different designs

Some Past Art Days

To get a "feel" for Art Day

I thought I would share some photos of projects and maybe some activities too. After all, Art Day isn't just about art. As my daughter, Sheila, noticed a few years back as we were sitting in a McDonald's sipping our "soda de' jour" and the kids were playing in the big jungle gym there. "So, this is Art Day huh." she said.
Keeping it "fun" all day long is important. It's a positive experience with a few art project they can be proud of. Everyone has a different attention span we all know.
So here are some photos of past years.....more to come

Claymation Experience

Working with clay is fun! working with clay and making a film is even more fun! As one of our Art Day projects we made little characters of clay and then did a claymation using my little doll house as a background.
The idea was to have each character come up to my character (Mr. Bill/Nowhere Man) and do something with or to him. Each child decided what the character would do and we together would pose them step by step and grandma would shoot the camera for each frame. The camera was on a tripod for steadiness.
One of the characters, as you will see in the film, actually goes through the floor/ceiling (we kept slicing the clay guy and reattaching him on the other side).
One of our family's favorite DVD's series is the "Wallace and Gromit" series. This project was a good lesson in how these films are made and how much work they are to put together. I hope we can make another one someday that's more advanced.

Let's Get Started

Boy, I just can't wait to share all the ideas I have about Art Day. I have been bringing my grandchildren together for Art Day now for about 11 years. (We have added some grandkids along the way) We have all had some great times making art and sharing in some summer activities.
